Concept note

AKADEMIYA2063, in collaboration with the Ministries of Agriculture of Kenya and Togo, and GIZ, is organizing a side event on October 29 as part of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme Partnership Platform (CAADP PP) and Commemoration of the 16th Africa Day for Food and Nutrition Security (ADFNS).

Titled “Data and Analytics for Integrating the CAADP Kampala Declaration into National Agrifood System Investment Plans (NASIPs): Lessons Learned from Kenya and Togo”, the event builds on ongoing efforts to domesticate the 2025 Kampala Declaration, which offers a framework for inclusive, evidence-based, and accountable transformation of agrifood systems.

In Kenya and Togo, AKADEMIYA2063 and partners have supported the alignment of national policies, budgets, and strategies with the Declaration’s goals. This initiative emphasizes the use of local data, stakeholder engagement, and strategic prioritization to ensure resilient and impactful commitments. Against this backdrop, the side event will explore practical examples, insights, and good practices on how countries can develop a Kampala-compliant and evidence-based NASIP.

The side event aims to discuss:

  • Lessons learned from the NASIP formulation experiences of Kenya and Togo to guide other countries in integrating the Kampala Declaration into their own NASIPs.
  • Insights on the role of the AKADEMIYA2063 diagnostics in informing policy and investment prioritization as part of NASIP formulation and updating.
  • Insights from Kenya and Togo’s participatory NASIP development processes to strengthen inclusive and evidence-based planning.
  • Opportunities for cross-country learning and knowledge exchange among countries and partners engaged in implementing the Kampala Declaration.
